Gautam Gambhir Steps In: Replaces Rahul Dravid as Team India's Head Coach | BCCI | Indian Cricket | ICC | Rahul Dravid's Farewell Speach !

Gautam Gambhir officially replaced Rahul Dravid as India's head coach on Tuesday. Dravid said goodbye to Rohit Sharma and the team after winning the T20 World Cup 2024, which was his last job as the head coach. Before the T20 World Cup, Dravid had already said that he wouldn't extend his contract after the tournament ended.

Last month, former India openers Gautam Gambhir and WV Raman were interviewed by BCCI's Cricket Advisory Committee (CAC) for the head coach position of the national team. Gambhir emerged as the frontrunner for the job. He recently completed his farewell video for Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) after leading them to their third IPL title in 2024 as a mentor.

BCCI secretary Jay Shah welcomed Gambhir as the new head coach of the Indian Cricket Team. Shah said, "Modern-day cricket has evolved rapidly, and Gautam has seen this change up close. He has excelled in various roles throughout his career, and I am confident he is the right person to lead Indian Cricket forward. His clear vision for Team India and his vast experience make him perfect for this exciting coaching role. The BCCI fully supports him as he starts this new journey."

Shah also confirmed that India will have a new head coach for the white-ball series against Sri Lanka this month. He said that both coach and selector appointments will be made shortly. VVS Laxman is going to Zimbabwe, but the new coach will join from the Sri Lanka series.

Rahul Dravid's Farewell Dressing Room Speech After T20 World Cup Win: "You Will Not Remember Your Career, But Moments Like This"

Rahul Dravid’s time as head coach of Team India ended on a high note with a T20 World Cup win over South Africa at the Kensington Oval in Barbados on Saturday.

The former India captain, who became head coach in November 2021, finally won an ICC trophy, something he couldn't achieve during his playing days. Dravid’s last stint as ODI captain had ended with India exiting in the group stage of the 2007 World Cup in the West Indies.

This title was Dravid’s biggest achievement as India’s head coach. During his nearly three-year tenure, the team finished runners-up in the 2023 World Test Championship final and the 2023 ODI World Cup at home.

In the India dressing room after the final, Dravid said, “I am really short of words but all I want to say is thank you to everyone for making me a part of what is an incredible memory."

He continued, “I think all of you will remember these moments. It’s not about the runs, the wickets, you will not remember your career. But you will remember moments like these. I cannot be prouder of you guys. To come back the way you did, the way you fought, the way we worked as a team. The resilience.” Dravid’s speech was shared in a video by the BCCI.
