Riya Arvinda Barde, also known by the names Arohi Barde and Banna Sheikh, was arrested on Thursday from Thane district in Maharashtra. Riya Barde, a Bangladeshi adult film actress, was taken into custody by Mumbai Police on September 27 in Ulhasnagar for staying in India illegally using fake documents, according to PTI.
The police received a tip-off about her real identity and her involvement in a cheating and forgery case. This led the Hill Line police station to file an FIR, charging her with cheating, forgery, and violating the Foreigners Act.
The investigation into Riya Barde's identity started a year ago, according to police reports. During the probe, authorities found her birth certificate and school leaving certificate, and her passport mentioned three different places of birth: North 24 Parganas in West Bengal, Hooghly, and Achalpur in Amravati, Maharashtra.

Sub-inspector Sangram Malkar, who is investigating the case, shared that during the inquiry, they found out that Riya’s mother, Anjali, is from Bangladesh and had been living illegally in India with her two daughters, including Riya, and a son. Anjali married Arvind Barde, a resident of Amravati, while pretending to be from West Bengal. She later got a passport for herself and her children using fake birth certificates and other false documents to claim Indian identity.
Reports say both of Riya’s parents are currently living in Qatar, while the search for her brother, Ravindra (also known as Riyaz Sheikh), and sister, Ritu (also known as Moni Sheikh), is still ongoing. It was also revealed that Riya had been previously arrested under the Immoral Traffic Act for her involvement in prostitution.
The case came to light after Prashant Mishra, a friend of Riya, recently learned about her true nationality and reported it to the police.
Businessman Raj Kundra, husband of actress Shilpa Shetty Kundra, has spoken out about the allegations linking him to Bangladeshi porn actress Riya Barde. In an interview with HT City, Raj stated that he has no connection with the arrested Bangladeshi actress Riya Arvinda Barde.
