India's Potential T20 World Cup Squad Post IPL 2024: What to Expect

As the excitement of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 builds up, fans of the Indian cricket team are eagerly watching the players' performances ahead of the upcoming ICC T20 World Cup 2024. This much-anticipated tournament is set to kick off on June 2 in the West Indies and the United States, and under the captaincy of Rohit Sharma, India is determined to break their ICC title drought, which has lasted since 2013.

The 15-member squad for the T20 World Cup is expected to be revealed in the last week of April, with the deadline for squad submission to the ICC being May 1. Teams have the flexibility to make changes to their initial squads until May 25.

Let's take a look at who might feature in India's probable squad for the T20 World Cup 2024, based on performances from the first two weeks of IPL 2024. It's important to note that this list is speculative and unofficial.

Rohit Sharma (captain):

Leading the team, Rohit Sharma brings his experience from winning the inaugural T20 World Cup in 2007. With over 11,000 runs in more than 400 T20 matches, he's a formidable opener.

Yashasvi Jaiswal:

The dynamic opening batter has been in top form since his international debut in 2023, amassing over 2,000 runs with two centuries and 15 fifties. He could partner with Rohit Sharma at the top.

Shubman Gill:

Captain of Gujarat Titans, Gill is a strong contender for the opening slot. With nearly 4,000 T20 runs, including five centuries and 23 fifties, he's a reliable choice.

Virat Kohli:

Former captain Kohli has been outstanding in IPL 2024, scoring 316 runs in five matches at an average of 105.33 and a strike rate of 146.29. He might also open the innings with Rohit.

Suryakumar Yadav:

Ranked as the world's top T20I batter, Suryakumar Yadav is almost certain at No.3. With over 2,000 T20I runs at an average of 45.55 and a strike rate of 171.55, he's a key player.

Rinku Singh:

Known for his hard-hitting style, Singh is likely to retain his spot in the middle order. He's scored close to 2,500 T20 runs at a strike rate of 148.86.

Hardik Pandya:

A star all-rounder, Pandya's T20 record speaks for itself with over 4,500 runs and 150 wickets. He's a match-winner for India.

Rishabh Pant:

The wicketkeeper-batter has made a strong comeback after injury, scoring 153 runs in IPL 2024. If fit, he could be the first-choice wicketkeeper.

Ravindra Jadeja:

An all-rounder with over 200 T20 wickets and close to 3,500 runs, Jadeja is a valuable asset to the team.

Kuldeep Yadav:

The left-arm wrist-spinner has been impressive across formats, claiming 177 T20 wickets. He's expected to make the squad.

Jasprit Bumrah:

A key bowler, Bumrah has over 250 T20 wickets at an economy of 7. He's been in form with five scalps in IPL 2024.

Mohammed Siraj:

Despite a recent lack of form, Siraj's wicket-taking ability makes him a likely pick. He has close to 150 T20 wickets.

Sanju Samson:

In good form in IPL 2024, Samson could be the backup wicketkeeper. He's scored 178 runs in four matches.

Yuzvendra Chahal:

Chahal has impressed in IPL 2024, being the leading wicket-taker with eight wickets at an economy of 6.35.

Mayank Yadav:

The young pacer's raw pace has caught attention in IPL 2024, picking up six wickets at an economy of 6. He could be a surprise inclusion.

This is India's probable squad for the T20 World Cup 2024: Rohit Sharma (captain), Yashasvi Jaiswal, Shubman Gill, Virat Kohli, Suryakumar Yadav, Rinku Singh, Hardik Pandya, Rishabh Pant (wicketkeeper), Sanju Samson (wicketkeeper), Ravindra Jadeja, Yuzvendra Chahal, Kuldeep Yadav, Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Siraj, Mayank Yadav.

Sanjay Manjrekar's Warning to India Selectors: Don't Overlook This Star for T20 World Cup

Sanjay Manjrekar Urges India Selectors to Include Rinku Singh in T20 World Cup Squad

Former India cricketer Sanjay Manjrekar believes that Rinku Singh should be an obvious choice for India's squad in the upcoming T20 World Cup. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is set to reveal the 15-man squad later this month, with a deadline of May 1 for team submissions. With the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) being a crucial factor, selectors are closely observing player performances.

Manjrekar expressed his hope that the selectors won't overlook Rinku Singh amidst the discussions about India's team selection for the tournament. He emphasized Rinku's talent and consistency, stating that he deserves a spot in the 15-man squad.

"Because he’s not getting many opportunities, I hope selectors won’t forget about Rinku Singh. He’s a straight walk-in into the Indian team. Every time he has got the opportunity, you’ve seen how good he can be, in the sense of his consistency and the range that he has. He’s somebody who I like, apart from the core of the Indian team, apart from the big names we are thinking about,” Manjrekar told Firstpost.

Rinku made his debut for India in a T20I against Ireland in 2023, amassing 356 runs in 15 T20Is with an impressive strike rate of 176.23. His knack for finishing matches has been a standout feature for Team India.

Even in the ongoing IPL season, Rinku has been a valuable asset for Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), particularly with his performances in the death overs.

India’s probable squad for T20 World Cup 2024, as per Manjrekar's recommendation:

Rohit Sharma (captain), Shubman Gill, Virat Kohli, Suryakumar Yadav, Rinku Singh, Hardik Pandya, Shivam Dube, Rishabh Pant (wicketkeeper), Sanju Samson (wicketkeeper), Ravindra Jadeja, Yuzvendra Chahal, Kuldeep Yadav, Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Siraj, Arshdeep Singh.
