Tributes to Captain Brijesh Thapa

Today, the body of Captain Brijesh Thapa, who died in a gun battle with terrorists in Jammu & Kashmir’s Doda, was brought to Bengdubi Army Camp. His arrival was met with deep sadness as army personnel carried his coffin.

Several important figures, including Brijesh’s mother, father, and sister, were among the mourners. Brijesh’s mother, Nilima Thapa, was very emotional but managed to stay strong. Speaking to the press, she expressed immense pride in her son's sacrifice for the country. She urged other mothers to encourage their sons to join the Indian Army to protect our borders.

Tomorrow morning, Captain Brijesh Thapa’s remains will be taken to his home in Ging, near Lebong in Darjeeling, where preparations are being made for his funeral rites.

Darjeeling MP Raju Bista, Gorkhaland Territorial Administration chief executive Anit Thapa, and other dignitaries paid their respects at Bengdubi Army Camp. Raju Bista spoke about the bravery of Captain Brijesh Thapa and his fellow soldiers, saying that their heroic actions will always be remembered and honored by the nation. He also emphasized that the Indian government will continue to support and empower its soldiers to fight against terrorism.

The father of Captain Brijesh Thapa, who was killed in an encounter with militants in Jammu and Kashmir, expressed his pride in his son's sacrifice. 

Captain Brijesh Thapa died alongside Naik D Rajesh, Sepoy Bijendra, and Sepoy Ajay while fighting terrorists in the Desa Forest area. Retired Colonel Bhuwanesh K Thapa, Brijesh’s father, said he is proud that his son gave his life for the country and would salute him as a soldier when his body is brought home.

Who was Brijesh Thapa?

  • Brijesh was 27 years old.
  • He studied at an army school in Mumbai and completed his BTech from a college in Mumbai.
  • From a young age, Brijesh always wanted to join the Indian Army. He used to wear his father's army uniform and pretend to be a soldier.
  • After completing his engineering, he still chose to join the army and passed the entrance exam on his first attempt.
  • He joined the Indian Army through the Short Service Commission in September 2019 after starting his training in 2018.

Family's Tribute

  • His father, Bhuwanesh, said Brijesh was intelligent, disciplined, and obedient. Despite being a qualified engineer, Brijesh was dedicated to serving in the army.
  • His mother, Nilima, said Brijesh was a nice boy who loved playing the guitar and drums. He never complained and was always determined to join the army.
  • The last time Brijesh was home was in March this year. The family lives in Siliguri and Darjeeling.
Final Conversations and Pride

  • Brijesh last spoke to his father on July 14.
  • Nilima recalled their final conversation, where Brijesh mentioned going on an operation in the hills and she asked him to stay safe.
  • The family was informed of Brijesh’s death on Monday night.

Community Mourning

  • Bhuwanesh expressed his pride in his son’s sacrifice for the nation, though saddened by the loss.
  • Brijesh's body will be brought to Siliguri on Tuesday night and then taken to Darjeeling on Wednesday.
  • His uncle, Yogesh, stated the family's loss is immense and urged the government to take stronger action against militants.

Condolences

  • Defence Minister Rajnath Singh and West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee offered their condolences.
  • Raju Bista, BJP MP from Darjeeling, expressed his deepest respects to Captain Brijesh Thapa and his fellow soldiers who sacrificed their lives defending the nation.

Captain Brijesh Thapa's bravery and dedication to his country will always be remembered and honored.
