Kolkata Doctor Murder case: What has happened so far in the Kolkata doctor rape case? What did the autopsy find?
Kolkata Police has arrested a citizen volunteer in this case. The accused has been identified as Sanjay Roy. A Kolkata court has sent the civic volunteer arrested on August 10 on 14-day police remand. Let us tell you that this case is of brutality with a junior doctor in RG Kar Medical College-Hospital on 9th August. The deceased was a second-year postgraduate student of the Chest Medicine Department of the Medical College and a trainee doctor.
What happened on 9th August?
RG Kar Medical College and Hospital is located in a crowded area like Lalbazar of Kolkata city. According to local reports in Kolkata, the junior doctor was doing night duty in the hospital on Thursday. At around 2 o'clock in the night he had dinner with some doctors of his team. Then she went to the seminar hall to rest for some time. After this nothing was known about him. At 6 in the morning, she was found half naked and dead.
Injury marks visible on body!
The initial report of postmortem had revealed the incident of rape with the female doctor. The body of a junior female doctor was lying on the mattress. There were blood stains on that mattress. The deceased female doctor had blood on her mouth and both eyes. There were blood stains on the private parts and nail marks on the face. Injuries were also found on the lips, neck, stomach, left heel and finger of the right hand. The victim's father had lodged a complaint of rape and murder at the local Tala police station on Friday.
What action did the police take?
As soon as the matter was known, senior officials of Lalbazar reached the hospital. Apart from the Homicide Branch, members of the Women's Complaint Cell were also present there. A special investigation team of Kolkata Police was formed to investigate the incident. There was no CCTV camera in the seminar hall where this incident took place. Therefore the police interrogated the nearby people. The SIT had also asked questions and answers to a civic volunteer posted in the hospital on Friday night.

A Bluetooth earphone was found at the crime scene. In the CCTV footage, accused Sanjay Roy was seen entering the seminar hall at 4 in the morning. During this time he was wearing earphones in his ears. After some time, when he came out of the hall, he did not have earphones. The police tried to connect the earphones found at the crime scene with the phones of all the suspects and it got connected to Sanjay Roy's phone. During interrogation, Sanjay confessed to rape and murder.
What sections were imposed?
Police have registered a case under section 103 (1) murder and section 64 (rape) of the Indian Justice Code (BNS). After the autopsy report came out, the case of rape and murder was confirmed. The police have formed a Special Investigation Team (SIT) and the hospital management has formed an investigation panel of 3 members. After the incident, medical students as well as various political parties protested outside the hospital. There is a demand for a CBI inquiry into the matter.
What are the doctors saying?
Medical college doctors are continuously protesting. The Indian Medical Association has clearly said that if the investigation is not completed within 48 hours, they will go on strike and protest across the country. At the same time, doctors of RG Kar Medical College and Hospital say that an attempt is being made to save someone else by naming Sanjay Roy as an accused. They fear that what happened to that female doctor on August 9 could happen to them tomorrow too.
