In recent years, the Mahindra Thar has become a popular name for off-roading in India. After the success of the three-door Thar, Mahindra is now ready to launch the five-door Thar in India on 15th August. The company has started sharing teasers, revealing many new details. • All-New Extended Design

Before diving into the biggest change in the Mahindra Thar five-door, it's important to note that the company has named it the Thar Roxx. This is to set it apart from the three-door model. The main highlight of the new Thar Roxx is the addition of two extra doors.

These extra doors make it easier to access the rear seats, which was challenging in the three-door version. This update also allowed Mahindra to extend the wheelbase, giving more interior space. The new Thar Roxx measures 4,070 mm in length, 1,855 mm in width, and 1,895 mm in height.

• Exterior Updates

The Mahindra Thar Roxx comes with several exterior updates. The most noticeable change is its longer profile due to the addition of two extra doors, giving it a more spacious and practical design. The extended wheelbase not only adds to the interior space but also enhances the overall look of the SUV, making it appear more balanced and robust.

Other updates include refreshed front and rear bumpers, slightly redesigned headlights, and new alloy wheels that give the Thar Roxx a modern yet rugged appearance. The SUV also features bold new color options and subtle tweaks to the grille and body cladding, adding to its off-road-ready charm.

• Powertrain Details

The Mahindra Thar Roxx will come with two engine options. The first is a 2.0-liter turbo-petrol engine that produces around 150 PS of power and 320 Nm of torque. The second is a 2.2-liter diesel engine, which generates 130 PS of power and 300 Nm of torque.

Both engines can be paired with either a 6-speed manual transmission (MT) or a 6-speed automatic transmission (AT). The Thar Roxx's off-road capabilities will be enhanced with features like mechanical locking differentials, terrain response modes, and hill descent control.

Mahindra is planning to make Independence Day extra special by launching its new product, the Thar Roxx. This five-door version of the Thar will be introduced in the Indian market on 15 August. Before the official launch, Mahindra has started teasing the SUV, showing glimpses of its exterior. However, spy photos of the Thar Roxx's interior have already surfaced, revealing many details.

The first thing that stands out in the Thar Roxx’s cabin is the new white upholstery, similar to the one in the XUV700. It might come with a ventilation feature for the front seats. However, given the SUV's nature, maintaining light-colored seats could be challenging.

The cabin will also include modern features like a larger touchscreen infotainment system, a bezel-less rearview mirror, automatic climate control, a new steering wheel, six airbags, and a single-pane sunroof. The presence of a single-pane sunroof suggests that this might not be the top-spec model, as a recent teaser showed the Thar Roxx with a panoramic sunroof.

Additionally, the upcoming Thar Roxx will feature adjustable headrests for all passengers, a split center armrest, rear armrest, three-point seatbelts for all passengers, and roof-mounted rear speakers. The instrument panel appears to be the same as the current Thar, indicating that this might be a lower-spec version.

The Thar Roxx is likely to use the existing powertrain options. However, it's still unclear if this new version will be offered in a rear-wheel-drive (RWD) variant. When it launches, the Thar Roxx will compete with the Maruti Suzuki Jimny and the Force Gurkha, both of which are also available in five-door versions.
