Bengaluru isn’t just a city—it’s an experience. Known as India’s startup capital, it has been a magnet for dreamers, techies, and entrepreneurs for decades. One such dreamer, Ujjawal Asthana, recently shared an emotional farewell to the city he called home for over 14 years.
In a deeply personal note posted on X, Ujjawal—co-founder of Zymrat—shared why he’s relocating to Pune. He spoke about Bengaluru with immense gratitude, reflecting on how the city shaped his life in ways he could never have imagined.
“Bangalore has been home for 14+ years. The city has given me all the good things in my life—first job, first foreign trip, a life partner, two successful businesses, funding, startup acquisition, great friends, a network worth in gold, and much more,” he wrote.
While Ujjawal’s move to Pune is purely professional, his love for Bengaluru shines through every word. He emphasized that he never felt like an outsider in the city, despite not being a native.
“I am not a local, but there wasn’t a day when I felt like an outsider,” he shared. “And if you’re thinking that’s because I live in a bubble of high-rises and cars, that’s not true. I’ve lived the BMTC, auto, and cab life in this city for the longest time.”
For those who dismiss Bengaluru as just another overcrowded urban sprawl, Ujjawal had a message: Bengaluru is a beautiful experience waiting to be lived. He urged people to explore the city beyond its traffic jams and into its soulful neighborhoods like Jayanagar.

Ujjawal’s farewell note also sparked a lively conversation about life in Bengaluru versus Pune. Many users shared their thoughts, with some praising Pune for its balanced lifestyle.
“Pune is like Bangalore on a smaller scale,” commented one user.“Pune is one of the best cities in India. If I ever return to India, I’d live there without a doubt,” wrote another.
Ujjawal himself expressed excitement about starting afresh in Pune while promising to return to walk the familiar streets of Bengaluru every chance he gets.
For Ujjawal and countless others, Bengaluru is not just a place; it’s a part of their identity. As he embarks on this new chapter, his story reminds us that some cities aren’t just homes—they’re milestones, memories, and a little bit of magic that stays with us, no matter where we go.
